07.09.2009 Iceland‧§ Day 14 § Skogar & Hvolsvollur

It was sunny while we were in Vik, but when we arrived at Skogar it was gloomy. We were hoping to leave our luggage in the tourist information, but found that it was closed for the season. Then I thought of the youth hostel, but then there was no staff in the hostel until late in the afternoon (15:00om or 16:00pm). We had no choice but to take turn to look after the luggage. I first went to look around the town and found the Folk Museum was at the far end of the bus station.. 拍攝器材:Canon 300V + Tarmon A09 + 過期 2 年的 Fuji Reala 100 When I walked back to the bus station, we met other backpackers preparing their lunch in the bus station. Since they were going to take the bus to Vik at 19:50pm, I asked them if they could look after our luggage for about 2 hours, and they kindly said it was fine for them. So we went to visit the museum, and it started raining at that time. After about 45 minutes, one of the backpacker came to us, and told us that they were going to leave very soon because they found another traveler who could drive them to Vik in about 20 minutes. After a brief discussion, my sister decided to go back to look after the luggage first and then came back later. At the time she left the museum, it was raining cats and dogs, and we had not brought umbralla with us... The rain was still rather heavy by the time when I left the museum (I had lost my umbralla in the hostel in Akureyri...) We had our lunch in the bus station, and we met 2 French guys who were going to hike to Landmanalangar from Skogar through Þórsmörk! Brave! They had their lunch in the bus station and then set off, it was still raining heavily at that time. (They had given us some of the French meat they brought to try, I wasn't dare to try at the beginning, but after my sister had tried a piece of it and said it was tasty, I took one piece of it - it was rather nice) We continued to wait for the rain to stop, however, it seemed endless. My sister didn't want to walk in the rain for more 10 minutes to the museum, although the rain had become lighter. So I went to have a close look of Skogarfoss with the tripod and SLR. On a sunny day, there was a high chance to see a rainbow in front of the waterfall, but it was a rainy day, so.. 拍攝器材:Pentax espio mini + 過期 3 年的 Konica 100 拍攝器材:Canon 300V + Tarmon A09 + 過期 2 年的 Fuji Reala 100 When I came back from Skogarfoss, I found my T2 camera case was missing! So I went back to the field which I had walked across on my way back from the museum. It was full of long grass - it was hopeless, I didn't found the case. When I went back to the bus station, it was almost 16:00pm, and my sister was chatting with a French lady. She then offered to make us a cup of tea, and was going to use the camping gas she brought to boil some water and then came the incident - the camping gas started to leak when she tried to open it! At last, the whole bottle of gas was gone completely... We were waiting for bus which should be there at 16:10pm but it was still not coming at 16:30pm. I was very worried that the bus schedule was out of date and there would not be any bus to Hvolsvollur in late afternoon, so I found the telephone on the bus schedule in the bus station and rang them up. Thanks god there was still staff in the office. After explaining the situation, the staff told me that she would ring the bus driver to find out what happened and would give me a call. I waited for about 15 minutes but there was no call at all. I was worried that she might have forgotten so I rang them again, and then they told me that bus was broken in Vik! Oh dear... but they were fixing it and would definitely come to Skogar to pick us up as soon as possible. Seljalandfoss When we finally arrived at the gas station in Hvolsvollur, it was well past 18:00pm, which was roughly an hour later than our original plan. It was raining cats and dogs again. After finished food shopping in the supermarket, I went to ask the staff in the gas station shop if he knew how to get to the guesthouse where we were going to stay. He told me it was behind the gas station, after passing those trees (he pointed the direction to me) then I would see the two houses, that would be it. I took my backpack and walked to the place he pointed, but I could not find the guesthouse but a campus site and toilets. I didn't walked into the surroundings as it was raining. I walked back to the gas station and was completely wet. My socks were fully soaked with water - the pair of Columbia hiking boots was not water-proof, I had proved that many times in my trip, not good. Since we had so much luggage + I could not find the way to the guesthouse + it was rather late in the evening (almost 19:00pm) + it was raining like hell, therefore I decided to ask if the guesthouse could give us a lift, otherwise, I would have to call a taxi. The staff if he knew the telephone number of the guest house, but he didn't. At the same time, there were local two ladies stopped at the gas station to get some petrol. I asked one of them the same question and luckily her friend in the car had the number and kindly rang the guesthouse up about our situation. The lady told us that a friend of the staff of the guesthouse would pick us up in 10 minutes. It was actually quite a long way from gas station to the guesthouse, thanked god we didn't need to drag all the stuff all the way in the rain. In the guesthouse, we met a German couple which we met on the bus, and they were going to Þórsmörk on the next day, too. 拍攝器材:Pentax espio mini + 過期 3 年的 Konica 100
